About the Role

 

The Senior Data Engineer role is focused on designing, maintaining and scaling our data infrastructure. You will also be responsible for integrating data and making it available to products, services and stakeholders throughout the AutoVerify ecosystem. You will evaluate and implement strategies for high volume, high-performance data delivery for the AutoVerify product suite as well as AutoVerify’s internal business requirements. The Senior Data Engineer role includes hands-on data acquisition and integration work using Amazon Web Services and its suite of data integration technologies (e.g. S3, RDS, Glue, Redshift). The ideal candidate is a technologist with data architecture and ETL development experience combined with business savviness. You must possess a passion for data and using big data technologies to solve complex technical and business problems.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced data discovery, data profiling, technical and business assessments on required data.
  • Coordinate data requirement gathering, analysis, design and quality activities for big data projects.
  • Monitor and ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Drive innovations and develop proofs-of-concept or prototypes to help illustrate approaches to technology and business problems (and take those through to production grade when they move forward).
  • Monitor imports and investigate failures during the data transfer process.
  • Raise issues with the system, research solutions, make recommendations for improvement and actively participate in the solutioning and building of the resolutions. 
  • Analyze successfully imported data for accuracy and patterns. 
  • Work with multiple project execution and deployment teams (e.g. Development, Data Science, Product, Customer Success, etc.)
  • Other projects, duties and initiatives as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on development experience working with cloud-based data technologies, involving complex and large scale datasets from disparate data sources (we use AWS). 
  • 3+ years of development experience (Python, PHP, Java or similar). 
  • Post-secondary degree in a technical discipline, such as Computer Science, Software/Computer Engineering, Applied Math, Statistics or a related field. Adequate experience in lieu of education is acceptable.
  • Thorough knowledge of data technologies and the data industry. 
  • Solid understanding of relational and dimensional database design. 
  • Working knowledge of logical and physical data models (we use PostgreSQL, MYSQL).
  • Experience with Agile methodologies for product development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to tailor to your audience (up and down throughout the organization). 
  • Ability to document data use cases, solutions and recommendations.
  • Passionate about data understanding, use, manipulation, delivery and documentation.
