About Us

The purpose of the Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women & Children is to promote the development of community-centered action research on the prevention of violence against women and children. The Centre facilitates individuals, groups and institutions representing the diversity of communities to pursue research questions and training opportunities related to the understanding and prevention of abuse.

Responsibilities

The Web Developer will be responsible for providing web development expertise for various online properties within the Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women & Children. The role will support and work with various project teams to define, develop, test, analyze, and maintain software applications and webpages that address the Centre's strategic needs. The role will monitor and maintain the applications and assist with planning for hardware and software enhancements to ensure functionality and that audience needs are met. In addition, the role will support the delivery of virtual knowledge mobilization events through online platforms, including Zoom. 

Qualifications

Education:

-    3-year Community College Diploma in Computer Programming or an Information Technology Field
-    Search Engine Optimization certification is preferred
-    Google Analytics certification would be an asset 
-    Courses in Project Management preferred 

Experience:

-    2 years of front-end programming experience with demonstrated proficiency in HTML, CSS, and Javascript
-    Experience with a CMS Framework
-    Experience with AWS web-enabling technologies (Route53, Lightsail)
-    Experience using Velocity Templating Language (VLT) and styling XML with HTML and CSS is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

-    Familiarity with system administration, including computer networks, operating systems, and applications software
-    In-depth knowledge of programming languages, computer coding, current internet technologies and best practices in developing test cases and test plans (including HTML, CSS, XML, Velocity and knowledge of SQL and Javascript)
-    A strong understanding of User Interface and User Experience (UI/UX) implementation
-    Ability to adapt to change and master new technical and organization concepts and processes
-    Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users
-    Ability to write clear, concise and accurate procedural documentation
-    Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
-    Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
-    Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service to directly and indirectly satisfy expectations
-    Excellent troubleshooting ability along with hands-on expertise in technical support
-    Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite; Google Analytics, and Cascade preferred
-    Demonstrated ability take initiative, to work independently and follow through on work assignments
-    Problem solving skills with a sense of urgency in resolving issues and getting tasks completed
-    Project management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and perform well under pressure
-    Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
