About Us
Western Technology Services (WTS) provides exceptional technology resources and services to keep the Western community connected! Western Technology Services supports students, instructors, and staff at all levels of their university experience, including eLearning, classroom technology, cybersecurity, network infrastructure, technology support, and much more!
WTS is seeking 2 creative and self-motivated Communications and Marketing student interns. If you’re an ambitious individual who wants to build a career in communications, especially in the technology sector, this is a great opportunity for you!
A key component of your work will be working to support the work our team does to enhance and sustain WTS’ social media presence. You will create and use content marketing strategies and communications plan to create unique social media content (reels and posts).
You will support the WTS Communications team with other departmental communications initiatives as required.
Responsibilities
- Support the creation of communications plans and marketing strategies.
- Design creative content for social media
- Monitor social media platforms to help keep WTS on trend
- Prepare detailed promotional media items, including videos, posters, graphics, brochures, etc.
- Support planning and delivering of marketing events.
- Write articles and other long-form content.
- Assist with maintenance and content update of our websites.
Qualifications
Education:
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student (enrolled in minimum of 3.5 courses) , and expect to retain full-time student status for the duration of this appointment
Experience:
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Bluesky).
- Experience with the following would be considered an asset:
- Experience using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience creating video content
- Familiarity using video editing software tools such as Capcut and Instagram Edits
- Understanding of communications best practices
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Understanding of communications best practices, considered an asset
- Good understanding of the latest marketing trends and techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong presentation abilities.
- Must have a passion for communications.
- Outstanding multitasking abilities.
