Job Description
Student – Urban Regeneration
Summary of Duties
Reports to and carries out work under the direction of a Manager in Economic Services & Supports and assists staff in a variety of assignments and studies, including field research, survey, data-gathering, data maintenance, and data analysis. Provides graphic and design assistance in the preparation of reports and studies. May participate in presentations, where necessary, to various groups including Advisory Committees, Standing Committees, Stakeholder Meetings, and the General Public.
Work Performed
Under the direction of a Manager in Economic Services & Supports, undertakes research, survey, data-gathering, data monitoring, data analysis, and mapping analysis. Collections of observational data and site visits may also be required.
Develops illustrative drawings, maps and documents to assist staff in their projects. Undertakes site and building photography.
Conducts, or assists in the preparation of studies and projects relating to the immediate and long term planning and development of land, facilities and services, including the study of demographic, socio-economic, physical and environmental factors; solicits input from other departments, divisions, agencies and the public.
Prepares information provided by staff to other planning staff, municipal departments, agencies, elected officials, community organizations and the general public.
Assists in the organization and participates in presentation/public meeting set-up, and may attend meetings of the Planning and Environment Committee, other Standing Committees, Advisory Committees, and citizen groups, as required.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in a planning, urban design or a planning-related, University or College program.
Must be a current student enrolled in full-time studies returning to school full-time September 2023 and/or require this placement to graduate from an academic program.
Skills
Working knowledge of the Planning Act and economic development principles and best practices.
Superior research skills and demonstrated experience with survey techniques.
Excellent oral, written and visual communication skills (e.g. ability to present findings in clear and concise manner).
Works well independently.
Comprehensive computer and data management skills (e.g. MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Working knowledge of related design, mapping and modelling software, such as SketchUp, AutoCAD, Adobe Create Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and ArcGIS is an asset.
Strong photography skills.
Self-directed workload prioritization and time management ability.
Ability to travel to various locations within London.
Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle an asset.
Compensation Range
$16.92 - $23.90 (Level 3)
Other Information
This posting is for 2 position.
Temporary full-time student from May-September 2023.
Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
