Job Summary

The Full-Time Project Manager will look after all of the Company’s contracts. This Project Manager will have experience in the construction of industrial energy plants. The Project Manager may participate at the proposal stage and their job will be to oversee each project from award of contract to the point when the equipment is operating and meeting the contract requirements. In this position the project manager will be interfacing with the KMW engineering and design team and with the clients’ representative and be willing to travel to job sites.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Participate in preparation of project proposals, as requested by engineering.
  • Obtain pricing and delivery schedule from sub-contractors, as requested by engineering.
  • Perform a post-mortem evaluation at the end of a project, and provide actual costs to estimating for future pricing.
  • Qualify new suppliers.
  • Perform periodic reviews on suppliers, to maintain quality and good working
  • Review equipment budgets and proposed suppliers.
  • Prepare task list for weekly meeting and communications to client.
  • Work with the KMW sales group to have a clear understanding of each contract scope and expected result
  • Work with the client from the start of each project to ensure a clear understanding of the project scope
  • Participate with the design team for best practice for the supply and install plan.
  • Create and maintain the schedule for each project
  • Work closely with the KMW internal team to ensure the engineering and design meets the contractual requirements
  • Work with accounting to track project cost
  • Work with the accounting manager on project invoicing
  • Co-ordinate, manage and track project submittal package documentation
  • Process contract change orders
  • Collaborate with the clients engineer
  • Conduct regular meetings with the client and their representatives
  • Work with purchasing to ensure deliveries of equipment are meeting the project schedule
  • Cooperate and communicate effectively with design manager and other project participants to provide assistance and technical support
  • Coordinate vendor deliverables and participate in vendor selections
  • Participate in sub-contractor selection, and oversee progress of work on site
  • Ensure employees and sub-contractors are aware and follow local health & safety rules and regulations while on site
  • Conduct regular internal project review meetings
  • Report regularly to the President on the status of each project
  • Take on special projects such as process improvement or KMW standards development as required
  • Follow up with customers at the completion of the job to ensure needs have been met
  • Travel to customer sites for meetings, plant commissioning and start-up: approx 20% on site, 80% office
  • Perform other duties and responsibility that KMW may reasonably assign from time to time

Supervision

  • Coordinate site visits as required.
  • Enforce health and safety rules.
  • Supervises sub-contractors, when applicable.
  • Supervises suppliers and their progress.
  • Review and approve, or get someone to approve suppliers plan and quality documents.
  • Organise security meetings with employees in the field.
  • Encourage teamwork and help boost employee morale.

Authority

  • To immediately require that employees and contractors stop dangerous or unsafe work.
  • To enforce health and safety requirements within the department.
  • To require that poor quality workmanship be corrected.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Preferred) 
  • EIT or P.Eng (Preferred) 
  • 2+ years’ experience in project management, specifically managing industrial plant construction projects (Preferred) 
  • PMP Certification an asset
  • Bilingual in English and French (Preferred) 
  • Experience in managing small to large industrial projects
  • Knowledge of boiler systems, ducting and piping, fans, material handling equipment, construction practices and custom equipment
  • Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practices and performance standards
  • Familiarity with Health & safety rules and regulations
  • Ability to read drawings, plan sets, P&ID diagrams
  • Advanced skills in Word, Excel, and project scheduling software
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Ability to work with multiple discipline projects
  • Decision making ability and leadership skills
  • Self starter and able to take initiative
