Responsibilities

The UX/UI Design Specialist will be responsible for delivering compelling digital user experiences through tactful web design, research and analysis, while ensuring the implementation of best practices. This role will build upon Western’s innovative digital strategies to deliver exceptional user experiences which support core brand initiatives and websites. The Design Specialist will be proficient in creating pixel-perfect design deliverables that solve UX problems and achieve marketing objectives, while having strong front-end development skills to bring design concepts to life using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Qualifications

Education:
-    Undergraduate Degree in Graphic Design, Interactive Media Design or User Experience 
-    User Experience Certificate, Registered Graphic Designer (RGD) certification

Experience:
-    3 years’ experience building large-scale web experiences and applications
-    3 years’ experience working with development teams to ensure solutions are seamlessly integrated and sustainable

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-    Proven ability to execute pixel-perfect prototypes/wireframes, including low and high fidelity mock-ups and clear information architecture
-    Ability to simplify complex concepts into clear solutions through effective user journeys/behavior flows
-    In-depth understanding of front-end web development using various technologies and languages, including: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap framework, Material Design
-    Knowledge of cross browser testing, troubleshooting/debugging
-    Demonstrated ability in understanding research outcomes
-    Strong understanding of SEO rankings/optimization, and web accessibility governance (WCAG 2.1 AA)
-    Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey design processes, ideas, and solutions
-    Strong attention to detail and proven experience in making decisions informed by data
-    Expertise with Content Management Systems such as WordPress and Cascade, while using theme template files
-    Passionate about staying current on emerging trends in user-centered methodologies, accessibility, UI design patterns, usability principles and web technologies
-    Expert-level skills in using industry tools such as Adobe XD, Sketch, Figma, InVision, Dreamweaver, Adobe CC
