Position Overview:
The Communications Specialist plays a key role in enhancing Ivey Academy’s brand visibility and driving engagement through digital channels, including social media, email campaigns, thought leadership content, and the IveyAcademy.com website. This position is focused on cultivating and nurturing leads for Academy programs and services by executing a strategic content plan that resonates with targeted sectors and communities.
Working closely with the Marketing Manager, the Communications Specialist will create and refine compelling content assets to support sales and business development efforts. They will also analyze social media and digital performance data, ensuring key performance indicators (KPIs) for audience engagement, community growth, and lead conversion are consistently met or exceeded.
Responsibilities:
Website Content Management:
- Update and maintain website content with a focus on front-end updates.
- Ensure all website content aligns with brand guidelines, is current, and supports business objectives.
- Identify areas for optimization and work with the team to implement enhancements.
Social Media Management:
- Develop and manage a social media calendar, with LinkedIn as the primary focus, while leveraging other relevant platforms.
- Actively foster engagement by responding to audience interactions, encouraging dialogue, and monitoring key accounts for opportunities to engage.
- Collaborate with external contractors to create and curate high-quality content, including video, ensuring brand consistency.
- Analyze social media performance using Hootsuite and generate monthly reports to identify trends and recommend adjustments to improve engagement.
Email Marketing:
- Leverage email platforms to execute outbound email campaigns, including newsletters, event invitations, and alumni outreach.
- Optimize email performance by analyzing key metrics (open rates, click-throughs) and implementing data-driven improvements.
- Work with internal teams to create compelling email content that drives action and engagement.
Content Marketing and Copywriting:
- Review and refine content developed by subject matter experts to ensure consistency with the Academy’s brand voice.
- Research and recommend content topics that align with SEO best practices, with a focus on reaching HR and L&D professionals.
- Contribute to a monthly Academy Brief newsletter for alumni and maintain an editorial calendar to guide content strategy.
- Collaborate with external writers on outsourced projects as needed.
Visual Design Support:
- Work with external contractors to produce branded templates, social media graphics, and video content.
- Provide input on creative projects and ensure final products meet brand standards.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- A degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- 5+ years of writing, content creation, or editorial experience, with a strong understanding of professional tone and audience targeting.
- Proven track record of managing social media platforms, including strategy development, posting, and community engagement.
- Familiarity with SEO best practices, with bonus points for experience conducting keyword research and analysis.
- Experience using a CMS (preferably Umbraco) and Campaign Monitor (or similar email marketing platforms).
Skills and Abilities:
- Exceptional writing and communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling, audience-focused messaging.
- Proficiency with analytics tools like Hootsuite for tracking social trends and performance.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects with minimal oversight.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively across teams and with external contractors.
- Awareness of DEI principles and sensitivity in engaging diverse audiences.
