Key Responsibilities:

Content editor

  • Complete publication copyediting using a three-pass technique (mechanical editing, content editing, formatting)
  • Quality check for voice, tense, context, and clarity using the tools provided
  • Adhere to visual standards through layout verification (template use, visual adherence to standards, e.g. colour, font, spacing, alignment, labeling, graphic standards/appropriate stock-image choice)
  • Apply Info-Tech’s style guide (capitalization, wording conventions, formatting, bullets, references, etc.)
  • Prepare PowerPoint decks for publication
  • Test Excel tools to ensure functionality
  • Liaise with authors, distributors, and promoters of content
  • Liaise with designers for image development and proofread final design collateral
  • Summarize written material as required
  • Write publication metadata as required 
  • Make categorization and keyword tagging suggestions/decisions
  • Coach research analysts on content writing and editing standards

Content publisher

  • Upload and publish publications and supporting media
  • Maintain publications on the website (edits, bug fixes)
  • Verify publication post-publish (using defined standards)
  • Review published content for issues
  • Move existing content into new/updated presentation templates as required
  • Liaise with developers to recommend CMS improvements and fixes
  • Verify/proof publication distribution emails and social media posts
  • Update website to publicize content and graphics

Planning and Process Improvement

  • Contribute to and maintain process and standards guide
  • Maintain publication checklists and suggest improvements to content publication process
  • Review submitted research materials for completeness and follow up with authors to resolve issues

 

Who should apply? Someone who has:

  • University degree or college diploma in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, or equivalent and related job experience
  • Exceptional editing, spelling, and language skills
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
  • Experience with IT-related content an asset
  • Passion for accuracy and affinity for details
  • Strong online research abilities
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong ability to adhere to procedures
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative, agile environment
  • Knowledge of HTML, copyright, SEO, and accessibility best practices are all considered strong assets
