About Us

The Faculty of Health Sciences is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit, comprised of six Schools (Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Communication Sciences and Disorders), a large Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and four Research Centres. The Faculty has more than 3,200 undergraduate students and more than 800 graduate students (200 PhD students).
 

Responsibilities

The Marketing and Communications Specialist will lead projects, and the development and execution of targeted digital marketing strategies, with a specific focus on supporting strategic student recruitment initiatives for the Faculty of Health Sciences, and enhancing the student experience. The role will manage the development of strategic marketing plans and related projects, develop and launch content across a variety of mediums and digital platforms and create and implement digitally-based student engagement initiatives. The Marketing and Communications Specialist will be a skilled project manager who identifies and implements new approaches to enhance the local, national and international reputation of the Faculty’s programmatic offerings and research expertise, in a manner that is consistent with all of Western’s applicable branding and communications guidelines. 

Qualifications

Education:
-    Undergraduate Degree in Communications, Marketing, or Related Program
-    Master’s degree or advanced certificate in Marketing is preferred

Experience:
-    3 years’ experience in communications and/or marketing, with an emphasis on developing and executing marketing plans, digital communications, customer relationship management,  graphic design and video editing
-    Experience in a post-secondary environment
-    Experience using Web-based content management systems (e.g. Cascade)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-    Proven success managing multiple projects in an institutional and/or agency setting
-    Demonstrated competence building, managing and analyzing Google Ads, Facebook Ad Manager and other relevant digital advertising platforms
-    Knowledge of theory and best practices in marketing geared toward student audiences
-    Familiarity with principles of writing, including grammar and style, argument, and coherence 
-    Communication skills to engage audiences, with confidence interacting with individuals at all levels of an organization
-    Ability to apply creativity and recommend strategies for engagement initiatives in response to cultural and social trends
-    Attention to detail and proofreading abilities with an excellent command of the English language
-    Familiarity with e-communication tools including website and graphic design principles and with social media platforms relevant to student populations
-    Discretion, tact and maturity to deal with public relations issues related to higher education
-    Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
-    Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, graphic design and video editing 
-    Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management systems (e.g. Campaign Monitor)
-    Interpersonal skills to liaise with prospective and current students, staff, faculty and other members of the Western community
-    Ability and propensity to use judgment and re-evaluate decisions when presented with new information
-    Team player with the ability to work collaboratively and actively contribute in meetings and in team settings
