Project Manager, Innovation


As an Innovation Project Manager, you will spearhead early-stage research and development projects in medical imaging, focusing on transforming innovative ideas into viable product concepts. Your primary responsibility will be to lead early phase projects in our gated medical imaging product design process, including business case development, product concept exploration, proof of concept/prototype activities, and feasibility and market need assessments. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation, evaluate emerging technologies, and align R&D efforts with our organization's strategic goals. Your role focuses on translating cutting-edge imaging concepts and technology into practical applications, setting the foundation for future product development and commercialization within our Medical Imaging CRO business.

Concept Development and Exploration

    • Lead ideation sessions and innovation workshops to generate and refine new concepts in medical imaging technology, defining and documenting requirements.
    • Develop comprehensive business cases for potential innovations, therapeutic area expansion, including market analysis, competitive landscape, case studies and potential return on investment.
    • Collaborate with scientific advisors and medical leadership to identify emerging trends and unmet needs in the medical imaging field.
    • Conduct initial feasibility assessments of innovative concepts, evaluating technical viability and alignment with organizational strategy.

Proof of Concept and Prototyping

    • Oversee the development of proof-of-concept models and early prototypes for promising imaging innovations.
    • Coordinate with R&D, AI/ML, Product team members or external partners to translate innovative ideas into tangible demonstrations or minimum viable products with clear a strategy for integration with Alimentiv’s existing products and/or computer system portfolio.
    • Manage resources and budgets for prototype development, ensuring efficient use of resources while maximizing innovation output.
    • Facilitate testing and validation of prototypes, gathering data to support further development decisions.

Project Management and Stakeholder Engagement

    • Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, and budgets for innovation initiatives through gated development cycles.
    • Implement agile methodologies to enhance project flexibility and responsiveness in the early stages of innovation.
    • Communicate project progress, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product operations, Quality Assurance, Medical R&D, Imaging Operations, and Commercial, to ensure alignment of innovation efforts.
    • Manage the appropriate creation, delivery, maintenance of related data, documents, equipment and tools, instructions, and training.
    • Act as project/vendor lead for innovation partners or vendors, supporting selection of third-party vendors and audits, serving as primary liaison throughout the project life cycle ensuring internal and external expectations are appropriately managed.

Innovation Assessment and Transition

    • Conduct market need assessments and competitive analyses to validate the potential of innovative concepts.
    • Develop and track innovation metrics to measure project success and potential impact.
    • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations on innovation projects for phase gate reviews.
    • Facilitate the smooth transition of promising innovations to the product development pipeline.

Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree + 4-6 years of related experience.
    • Demonstrated experience in early-stage product development, innovation management, and ability to navigate the complexities of R&D in a regulated industry.
    • Strong understanding of medical imaging/clinical research industry, emerging imaging technologies and trends
    • Knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, software as medical device (SaMD) development processes and regulations. Experience leading cloud and digital first technology strategies.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, communication and presentation abilities
    • Experience with agile development practices.
    • Abilities to work independently and self-motivate, strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
