StarTech.com is currently looking for a Category Manager to join our Vendor Management team at our Corporate Office in London, Ontario.
Reporting to the Manager, Vendor Management, the Category Manager makes an impact by developing sourcing strategies, managing supplier relationships and performance while coordinating efforts between internal stakeholders and supplier account teams to support StarTech.com corporate objectives.

In this job you will:
- Communicate regularly with vendors, acting as the key point of contact for all escalation items
- Develop and deploy purchasing strategies to meet KPIs and reduce total purchasing costs through price and terms negotiations
- Coordinate vendor activities including preparing and executing RFQ bids & analysis, supplier evaluation, selection and contract negotiations
- Work with Product Management & Development requirements to research and identify new vendors
- Establish a sustainable sourcing strategy, including source evaluation, selection and supply base rationalization
- Proactively manage and reduce risk regarding cost, quality and delivery
- Lead ongoing development activity for key suppliers and continuously look for ways to strengthen relationships between StarTech.com and vendors
- Conduct Quarterly Business Reviews with top and high potential vendors in supported Categories
- Own supplier reporting and review external market factors and trends that could impact StarTech.com’s supply chain
- Prepare and present reports to internal stakeholders on topics such as vendor scorecards, and manufacturing lead-times
- Analyze trends and evolving technology to proactively identify supply base opportunities to reduce cost, minimize risk and protect continuity of supply and communicate to internal stakeholders
What You Can Show Us
- 5+ years’ experience in strategic sourcing, supply chain, vendor management or other directly related experience
- Post-Secondary Education with a focus in supply chain, economics or business is preferred
- Familiarity with the computer accessories, IT or hardware industries, electronics manufacturing or engineering capacity is beneficial
- Experience working with Asian based suppliers and supply chains is extremely beneficial
- Demonstrated ability to influence at the leadership, senior leadership and executive level, internally and with vendors
- Strong business and financial acumen – including experience in risk mitigation, skilled negotiations and issue/dispute resolution
- Experience in management of long-term vendor relationships including providing feedback on performance metrics and deliverables
- Procurement experience in competitive bidding processes
- Ability to travel globally up to 25% of the time
