The Marketing and Communications department at Ivey Business School plays an important role in shaping the school’s public profile. This includes internal and external communication strategies and marketing programs that enhance and protect Ivey’s brand and reputation; advance the school’s position with its key stakeholders; promote Ivey’s world-class research and thought leadership; and drive broader national and international awareness and interest in the school’s programs.
The team plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing plans that amplify Ivey’s brand and deliver a consistent brand message and market presence. We provide marketing, communication, media, and event-planning support for the school and work closely with internal project managers and external vendors to ensure project plans are developed and executed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Position Overview:
The Manager, Social Content is a creative, high-energy, social media expert. They are passionate about the power of social to inform and inspire others and are eager to accelerate the leadership of a top brand in society. They are purposeful and a professional communicator, attuned to the subtleties of social conversation. The individual can handle sensitive information with care and are attentive to the details. They are a digital native, comfortable with social media software, social media design and basic CMS. They are on top of the latest social media and digital trends, abreast of best practices, and eager to share their sense of urgency and knowledge with those around them.
The primary purpose of the position is to implement and enhance the social media strategy across all Ivey School-wide social channels and to drive overall engagement through proactive, engaging, and creative social communications and content. Leveraging social/digital trends and insights, the individual in this role will identify opportunities for enhanced interaction and will influence and optimize the digital experiences of key audiences. The Manager, Social Content will design and deliver key messages through purposeful, proactive, timely and engaging social content, and respond to inquiries across platforms with sensitivity and professionalism. In addition to managing Ivey’s overall brand narrative and engagement across social, the individual in this role will also contribute to the achievement of Ivey’s strategic goals by designing content, writing headlines, and publishing visually engaging news stories that meet the needs of key audiences, in real-time.
Ivey’s Marketing and Communications team is strategic, collaborative, and committed to high-quality work and continuous improvement. This role requires a passionate social media expert, willing to rolling up their sleeves and execute a variety of projects and events, yet also capable of providing advice and recommendations on social initiatives that will maximize key audience experiences, drive recruitment, and enhance the overall reputation of the school.
Responsibilities:
- Social management, monitoring and responding
- Lead the implementation of the social media strategy across School-wide social media channels including but not limited to LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok.
- Lead as the primary contact for the general public and key stakeholders, maintaining Ivey’s tone of voice and brand standards.
- Develop and own the social media editorial calendar for core Ivey accounts, ensuring content and communications are on-brand, on- message, customer-focused, and in alignment with the strategic plan.
- Monitor social media conversations with regards to the school, its programs, faculty, and students, and engage where required and appropriate, including outside of regular working hours.
- Content development, design, and production
- Design engaging and relevant content that drives going engagement and positive brand experiences.
- Design social media posts including sourcing and editing videos, photos, and infographics.
- Planning, sourcing, writing of pre-planned, real-time, and live execution of social content.
- Assist the Communications team with optimizing corporate content for success on social; recommend headlines, source images/assets, and publish visually engaging corporate content in a timely manner.
- Assist with designing, developing, and executing the thought leadership strategy through social.
- Advising, planning, and project management
- Use strong judgement to assess the impact of comments, posts and conversations that may affect the wellbeing of stakeholders or the school’s reputation, bringing risks and issues to the attention of senior leadership, university administration and any other appropriate channels with urgency. Assist with issues management, where appropriate and respond with in a timely manner with sensitivity and professionalism.
- Recommend and implement innovative strategies for social media and digital communications, monitor market and keep abreast of trends, opportunities and emerging platforms and networks.
- Identify opportunities for optimization of processes, programs and training to improve the overall social capacity and skills of Ivey social media editors in all areas of the school. Provide coaching to these editors as required.
- Advise and inform others, including senior leaders, on best practices and the effective use of social media for personal, professional, and corporate use.
- Other – analysis and administration
- Define, develop, and track key performance metrics to monitor the success of Ivey’s social media engagement and overall on-line impact.
- Provide monthly reports and analysis of metrics.
- Support the communications team as needed with assistance in writing, event planning and project management.
- Work closely with student team members to develop social media posts and campaigns while providing guidance and oversight.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- University degree
- 4+ years’ marketing or communications experience including managing social media, digital communications, and community management.
- Experience managing social media communities required.
- Experience in the higher education industry is considered an asset.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proven ability to execute large scale social media programs required.
- High degree of technical and social media comfort and awareness required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Extreme attention to detail and time management skills.
- Proficient with digital graphic design software (Photoshop, In Design, Canva).
- Strong comprehension of social landscape, platforms, and best practices (LinkedIn organic and paid, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok).
- Experience and comfort with digital marketing technology software (CMS, Hootsuite, and Salesforce applications, preferred).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and proven ability to build effective relationships across all levels of an organization.
- Handles sensitive and confidential information appropriately and with discretion.
