Summary of Duties:

The Environmental and Engineering Services Department, Traffic Engineering Division of the City of London, is seeking an Engineering Student to assist with work in the division from: noted above contracts. The chosen individual shall have a good work ethic, specific knowledge and related university courses.

Work Performed:

    • The student is required to perform the following duties under the direction and with the assistance of Engineering Staff:
      • Traffic counts (manual and automated) and analysis
      • Speed surveys and analysis
      • Road alignment deficiency studies
      • Pedestrian crossing timing studies
      • Parking inventory update
      • Permanent count station download
      • Collision data assembly, analysis and reporting
      • Travel time surveys
      • Transportation Impact Assessment studies review
      • Traffic Calming Reviews
      • Technical support for various capital project designs and environmental assessments
      • Public Education and Enforcement Program (PEEP) coordination and scheduling.
      • Traffic Operations Public Service (TOPS) inspections, interviews, documentation, evaluation and communication
      • Municipal Consent, Zoning By-law and Official Plan Amendment application review assistance and response
      • Special projects involving design of roads and structures (ie: view obstructions, proposal reviews, site surveys, preliminary design, quantity take off, tender reviews, site photos following construction, etc).

Qualifications:

    • Currently enrolled full-time in an academic program related to Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Transportation Planning/Design.
    • Student must be returning to full-time academic studies in September 2027 and/or require this co-op placement to graduate.

Experience:

    • Experience working with the public, including handling complaints and resolving conflicts, is an asset
    • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to communicate in an inclusive and respectful manner
    • Demonstrated experience or interest in data analysis (an asset)
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with above-average computer skills; advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required
    • Strong report writing and presentation skills are desirable
    • Comfortable working in a professional office setting; this position is based at City Hall in downtown London, conveniently located near public transit and Western University.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

    • Possesses a valid G Class driver's license (a personal vehicle is not required).

Compensation & Other Information:

    • This posting is for one (1) temporary full-time up to 12 month student position.
    • $23.11/per hour.
    • Length of Term: September 2026 - September 2027.
    • Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid.
