Jr. Desktop Engineering Specialist (Student Position)
Role Description
We are looking for a bright and passionate Jr. Desktop Engineering Specialist to be a part of the I&O Desktop Engineering Team. Working closely with other Digital Technology Teams, we are undertaking exciting work as we transform the Desktop landscape. Key areas of focus include Cloud strategy, adoption, operational excellence, application modernization, Continuous Integration/Continuous delivery, maintain security compliance, service Integration and assisting stakeholders with approaches to modernizing our services. In Desktop Engineering, we are changing, adapting, and realigning in greater support of customer and business expectations. Through a systematic and focused approach, we are looking to move forward change incrementally using agile approaches.
The Jr. Desktop Engineering Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining the desktop environment, including hardware, software, security, and network connectivity. The Jr. Desktop Engineering Specialist also provides technical support and troubleshooting for end-users and ensures compliance with IT policies and standards. The Jr. Desktop Engineering Specialist also works in agile methodologies, such as scrum and kanban, to deliver high-quality desktop solutions.
What you will do
- Install, configure, update and deploy desktop and virtual machine hardware and software
- Monitor and optimize desktop and virtual machine performance and security
- Monitor and maintain the desktop management infrastructure and systems, including related servers, databases, networks, and endpoints
- Resolve desktop and virtual machine issues and requests in a timely and professional manner
- Provide end-user training and guidance on desktop applications and best practices
- Ensure compliance with security controls and licensing
- Document procedures and inventory
- Collaborate with other IT teams and vendors to ensure smooth and reliable desktop operations
- Participate in agile ceremonies, such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and demos
- Use agile tools such as Jira, to help manage and track desktop projects
- Work independently and as a team to deliver the I&O Desktop Engineering service
What you will bring
- Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office 365, Active Directory, Intune, SCCM and Azure
- Knowledge of desktop management tools, such as MECM, Intune and Group Policy/Azure
- Knowledge of desktop security tools, such as antivirus, firewall, encryption, web content filtering, as well as access controls
- Knowledge of desktop networking (firewalls and protocols such as TCP/IP, DHCP, or DNS)
- Ability to script\automate small to large projects (PowerShell experience preferred) is an asset
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, teamwork and customer service skills
- Knowledge of agile methodologies, such as scrum and kanban, and agile tools, such as Jira, or Azure DevOps, are a plus

The base salary for this position is between $39,200 - $65,300 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
