About The Role
This role will play a pivotal role in helping modernize Orca’s infrastructure and platform across our Azure environment. You will own and grow our DevOps discipline, a cornerstone of our technology platform and work closely with our Software Development, Data Management and IT teams. This role will design and implement cloud infrastructure-as-code, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, and establish a robust observability stack from the ground up.
The candidate will act as a key enabler for engineering, data, and IT teams by improving reliability, security, and deployment speed. The successful candidate will bring strong Azure and DevOps experience, be comfortable working in a mixed environment (applications, data platforms, and legacy systems), and help move Orca toward more automated, repeatable, and well-instrumented operations.
What You'll Do
Lead the design and implementation of Azure-based infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) (e.g., ARM/Bicep/Terraform)
Build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps for application and data platform deployments
Design and implement a comprehensive observability stack in Azure, including logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, and alerting
Work closely with the Lead Data Engineer to support the new data platform’s infrastructure, deployment, and runtime operations
Collaborate with IT to modernize existing environments, including migration from legacy/VM-based setups to more scalable PaaS and managed services where appropriate
Implement and maintain configuration management, environment consistency, and automated provisioning across dev/test/stage/prod
Contribute to security, compliance, and reliability efforts by enforcing best practices for identity, access, network configuration, and secrets management
Help define and track SLOs/SLAs for critical services, and support incident response and root-cause analysis
Optimize cloud resource usage and costs through right-sizing, automation, and monitoring
Create clear documentation, runbooks, and handover materials for IT and engineering teams
Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support broader platform modernization initiatives
Leverage and, where appropriate, integrate with tools such as DataDog, GitHub, and .NET-based services (nice to have) as required by Orca’s evolving technology stack
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or a similar role
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including common services (App Service, Azure SQL, Storage, VNets, Key Vault, etc.)
Strong background in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as ARM/Bicep or Terraform
Solid experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps and/or GitHub actions (AZDO)
Proven experience designing and implementing observability from scratch in Azure (centralized logging, metrics, dashboards, alerts)
Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, or Python)
Strong understanding of networking, security, and identity in cloud environments (VNETs, NSGs, firewalls, RBAC, managed identities, secrets management)
Experience working in production environments with a focus on reliability, performance, and incident response
Ability to collaborate effectively with data, application, and IT teams, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Nice to Have
Experience with DataDog or similar observability platforms
Familiarity with .NET application stacks and deployment patterns
Experience with GitHub (Actions, repos, security features) in addition to Azure DevOps
Exposure to regulated or audited environments (e.g., SOC, ISO)
