Canada Life is seeking a strategic and dynamic communications leader to join our Corporate Communications team as Assistant Vice President, Communications. This role is pivotal in shaping and executing internal and external communications strategies that support our brand, reputation, and business priorities across Canada.
As AVP, Communications, you will be part of a high-performing team and collaborate closely with senior executives, business units, and external partners to deliver impactful communications that engage stakeholders, enhance our corporate narrative, and drive business outcomes.
What you will do:
- Thought Leadership: Guide the development and implementation of thought leadership research and campaign. As part of this, you will establish positioning pillars and messaging frameworks for executive voices; ensure consistency across channels. You will also lead a cross-functional editorial council to prioritize topics, accelerate activities, and sequence campaigns.
- Strategic Communications: Develop and implement integrated communications strategies aligned with Canada Life’s corporate objectives. This includes executive platforming to support the role of executives in delivering the campaign across audiences and channels. You will also partner with colleagues across teams, including brand, digital, and marketing, to drive multi-channel distribution strategy.
- Operational Leadership: Oversee communications planning, measurement, and reporting to ensure effectiveness and continuous improvement.
What you will bring:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, public relations, or related fields.
- Proven leadership experience in a complex, matrixed organization, preferably in financial services or insurance.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a strong storytelling ability.
- Experience managing media relations, crisis communications, and executive communications.
- Strong strategic thinking, stakeholder management, and project leadership skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related discipline; Master’s degree or professional designation (e.g., APR) is an asset.
