Summary of Duties:

The Environmental and Engineering Services Department, Transportation Planning and Design Division of the City of London, is seeking a Engineering Student to assist with work in the division from: May 2025 - August 2026.  The chosen individual shall have a good work ethic, specific knowledge and related university courses.  

Work Performed:

The student is required to perform the following duties under the direction and with the assistance of Engineering Staff:

  • Traffic counts (manual and automated) and analysis
  • Speed surveys and analysis
  • Road alignment deficiency studies
  • Pedestrian crossing timing studies
  • Traffic signal timing and corridor progression analyses
  • Traffic signal optimization using computer model (Synchro)
  • Parking inventory update
  • Permanent count station download
  • Collision data assembly, analysis and reporting
  • Travel time surveys
  • Transportation Impact Assessment studies review
  • Traffic Calming Reviews
  • Technical support for various capital project designs and environmental assessments
  • Public Education and Enforcement Program (PEEP) coordination and scheduling.
  • Traffic Operations Public Service (TOPS) inspections, interviews, documentation, evaluation and communication
  • Municipal Consent, Zoning By-law and Official Plan Amendment application review assistance and response
  • Special projects involving design of roads and structures (ie: view obstructions, proposal reviews, site surveys, preliminary design, quantity take off, tender reviews, site photos following construction, etc).

Qualifications:

Eligible students must be enrolled in a full-time academic program pertaining to Engineering/Engineering Technology, Transportation Planning/Design. 

Must be a current student enrolled in full-time studies and/or require this placement to graduate from an academic program. 

Specialized Training & Licenses:

Must have above average computer skills and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites. 
The individual chosen would be working at City Hall in downtown London, minutes away from bus routes and Western University.   A vehicle is not required, but the student needs a “G” license. The City of London is a Municipality of approximately 380,000 and is located in the heart of Southwestern Ontario.

Compensation & Other Information:

$22.44 - $26.17

This posting is for one (1) temporary full-time up to 16 month student position.

Different co-op term lengths open for consideration.

Length of Term: May 2025 - August 2026.

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work Arrangement: In office.
