About Us

The Department of Western Technology Services (WTS) is a central source committed to providing high-quality, cost-effective technology solutions and services to the campus community in support of the teaching and research missions of the University. WTS works collaboratively with other IT groups within Western’s faculties and support units to leverage central supported technology solutions and services where it makes sense.

Responsibilities

The Student Operator supports the Operations Team within the Network Infrastructure and Data Center Operations unit by assisting with routine operational and administrative tasks. The role contributes to the team’s day-to-day activities by helping maintain operational records, documentation, and internal databases. Responsibilities include assisting with data processing tasks, maintaining and updating operational documentation, and supporting routine operational procedures. The student may also assist with monitoring operational processes, responding to basic service requests, and providing on-site technical support to staff and faculty as needed. Working under the guidance of other technical staff, the student will gain exposure to enterprise IT infrastructure, operational workflows, and best practices used in managing such environments. This position provides an opportunity to develop practical, technical and operational skills within a collaborative and professional IT environment.

 

Qualifications

 

Education:

  • Must be a student returning to studies in the fall

Experience:

  • Previous work experience in a similar role or within the department

Skills, Abilities and Expertise:

  • Ability to follow processes and practices with a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit the audience and situation
  • Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with a genuine customer service orientation
  • Reliable and dependable with the ability to consistently work the assigned schedule
