The Kidney, Dialysis and Transplantation (KDT) program is seeking an Epidemiologist to work collaboratively with our network of researchers and our staff, applying research methodology in the context of health services administrative data. Your work will draw from all of Ontario's 18 billion health related records (~ one trillion data points). With KDT you can take pride in your work and participate in driving real-world change.

KDT operates at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario. The Epidemiologist is an employee of LHSC and London Health Sciences Centre Research Institute.

Recognizing that our staff are a priority, we offer immersive role specific training that includes frequent access to clinician researchers, Scientists and senior staff, standard but flexible work hours with opportunities to work remotely, a minimum of 3 w vacation, and a competitive compensation package with dedicated time for ongoing training and professional development activities. The successful candidate must work on-site 4 days per week beginning their first day until the completion of their first project which denotes the end of their training (~ 1 y). 

Temporary Full Time - one year renewable contract 

Rate of Pay - $32.66 - 40.83 per hour

Hours of work: 37.5 hours/week 

The successful candidate may be responsible for, but not limited to:

  1. Independently developing, planning, leading and implementing study protocols, analytic plans, and administrative elements under the direction of the principal investigator or scientist;
  2. Providing advice to staff, PIs, stakeholders and trainees on research feasibility, design, methodology, availability of ICES data and interpretation of findings;
  3. Leading development of comprehensive literature searches and/or reviews (includes mentorship);
  4. Interpreting and writing results for reports, peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and other deliverables in collaboration with the project team; 
  5. Project management for the assigned workload, including facilitating communication between investigators, trainees and research staff, monitoring project timelines, scope, budget & deliverables;
  6. Assisting with the preparation of grant applications, including drafting grant proposals, preparing budgets, and updating investigator CVs;
  7. Assisting with REB applications and data sharing agreements to link external data to administrative data holdings at ICES;
  8. Contributing to a body of knowledge around variable definitions, analytical approaches or limitations in our data and resolving data issues as they arise;
  9. Performing other duties as appropriate and necessary for the efficient functioning of the team; 
  10. Continuing to maintain and expand professional skills.

Qualifications

 
  • Bachelor's degree in epidemiology, health services research, public health, biostatistics, or a related field; 
  • Two plus years of experience in a health facility or health research environment, with similar involvement in identifying or working with administrative data sources, designing research studies, procuring data, preparing reports, and editing with scientific rigour. 
  • Strong desire to function in an environment that requires constant adaptation to changing organizational needs and re-prioritizing workload to accommodate;
  • Extreme comfort when expected to produce high levels of output; 
  • Functions best in an environment that requires independence and where expectations are that staff understand risk management;
  • Understanding of health services research concepts and knowledge of health administrative data and data holding at ICES;
  • Ability to apply statistical and epidemiological methods/principles to health services research;
  • Experience collaborating with a diverse team and building public health, research, academic, institutional, or professional networks;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication and presentation skills;
  • Ability to maintain strict confidence as required when interacting with stakeholders.
