Solutions Architect – Individual Wealth Technology

The Individual Wealth Technology team within Application Delivery, Canada and Lifeco, is seeking a Solutions Architect. This role is a match for you if you are passionate about Wealth and working to innovate, define, and deliver high quality technology solutions. The Solutions Architect will play a key role in our team by serving as a trusted advisor to our internal clients and partnering with the business to enable and support delivery.
The Solutions Architect will collaborate with their portfolio & technology teams as well as business partners, sponsors, and stakeholders to contribute to the development of strategies and roadmaps for the business. They will work to define and maintain architecture artifacts for supporting project delivery and application support. They will play an active role in setting the technical vision and direction for solutions, ensuring consistency with overall enterprise and portfolio architecture. During the execution of these activities this may, at times, require hands-on development. The Solutions Architect will also have the opportunity to effect change within the organization by incorporating new patterns and/or technologies into new ways of working that improve business value.
Accountabilities:
- Defines and facilitates a solution architecture that leverages enterprise capabilities and efficient usage of processes, technology, data and people to align these capabilities
- Consults with business partners and delivery stakeholders
- Participates in the definition of, and helps to maintain the technical solution architecture(s)
- Actively participates in the discussions which drive the architectural decisions for the team and develop the technical vision and direction for the solution.
- Defines and creates candidate architecture solutions
- Defines and maintains solution architectures for applications
- Ensures quality designs when involved in solutioning any infrastructure and development issues.
- Proactively identifies opportunities where solutions can enhance organizational efficiency
- Actively engaged as the team works to solve complex problems
- Keeps abreast of latest technological/industry trends
- Acts as trusted technology advisor/advocate for business units
- Supports the development of technology roadmaps and proposals to achieve business plans.
- Works closely with all team members to create solutions that accommodate future architectural changes and designs
- Identify critical driving forces of process, data, people and technology and identify any changes or improvements that can be made.
- Ability to look beyond traditional business concepts and drill to the heart of a given concept
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Bachelor Computer Science / Software Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 7 years of related experience in technology environments.
- Minimum of 4 years working as an architect with experience on large scale projects enabling business to achieve the goals and objectives.
- Experience leading architecture activities in conjunction with the Enterprise Architect or Portfolio Architect.
- Able to act as a mentor to less experienced architects and developers/engineers.
- Experience in Wealth Management technology ecosystems.
- Experience with Web Technologies and Networking TCP/IP, DNS, Proxy, Reverse Proxy, SSL/TLS, SFTPProven business acumen demonstrated through a broad understanding of an organization, functions, practices, trends and competition.
- Financial knowledge demonstrated through the ability to calculate the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Return on Investment (ROI).
- Values simplicity, ability to simplify difficult concepts.
- Ability to foster collaborative stakeholder relationships across multiple business functions.
- Ability to effectively communicate high-level concepts and solutions with technology and business teams and stakeholders.
- Capable of high level of analysis of the big picture while maintaining a level of detail appropriate to the context of a variety of situations.
- Understands the framework (i.e. structure, people, processes, and technology) that supports an organization’s strategy and can successfully leverage it.
- Understands policy, practice, and standards to ensure design and delivery of compliant solutions.
- Able to challenge business and technical constraints in support of continuous improvement.
- Self-starter with the ability to comfortably operate in ambiguity.
Assets:
- Experience with application modernization
- Experience in the financial services industry
- Experience with virtualization, service architecture, and cloud computing
- Development experience in RDBMS, modern programming language(s) and frameworks, services, SDLC, automation, agile
- Architectural experience using modelling languages and frameworks (UML, TOGAF, Archimate, 4+1 View Model, etc, LeanIX), architecture practices and principles in Business, Information (data), Application, Technology, and Security architecture disciplines
- Experience with Java Application Servers would be an asset
- Experience with SSO would be an asset.
- TOGAF Level 1 and 2 Certification
- One or more BAITS domain certifications

The base salary for this position is between $94,800 - $144,800 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
