Temporary - Volunteer Resource Associate
Job Summary
Do you enjoy helping people find meaningful ways to contribute, while keeping details organized, timelines moving, and people supported along the way?
We are recruiting a temporary part-time Volunteer Resource Associate. In this role, you will be a key point of contact for volunteer applicants as they move through the recruitment and onboarding process, helping ensure requirements are completed, questions are answered, and candidates feel informed and supported before they begin.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys work that is both people-focused and detail-oriented. You will support volunteer recruitment activities, conduct pre-screens and arrange interviews, coordinate onboarding and documentation, and maintain accurate applicant and volunteer information. You will also represent LHSC at volunteer fairs and recruitment events, support Volunteer Week activities, and contribute to improvements that strengthen the volunteer experience.
In this role, you will:
- Support volunteer recruitment by reviewing applications, completing pre-screens, scheduling and conducting interviews, completing references, and maintaining applicant records.
- Keep applicants and volunteers informed by responding to questions, addressing concerns, and providing timely updates throughout the application and onboarding process.
- Coordinate the onboarding process for new volunteers, including documentation, health review information, training requirements, orientation support, and follow-up with candidates.
- Communicate with Volunteer Resource Specialist to support the successful onboarding and placement of new volunteers.
- Participate in volunteer fairs, recruitment events, and community engagement opportunities to help promote volunteer opportunities at LHSC.
- Support Volunteer Week, the Volunteer Advisory Council, and other initiatives aimed at improving the volunteer experience.
- Track and report onboarding, recruitment, applicant, and event metrics to support planning and continuous improvement.
What We Offer
- Status: Temporary Part-Time
- Contract Duration: 2 years
- Hours of Work: variable based on operational needs
- Rate of Pay: $32.33 - $40.41 per hour

You are organized, approachable, and service-focused. You enjoy working with people at different stages of the volunteer journey, from someone exploring opportunities for the first time to an active volunteer who needs support or guidance. You are comfortable balancing competing priorities, responding to interruptions, tracking detailed requirements, and moving work forward in a busy healthcare environment.
You bring strong communication skills, good judgment, and the ability to create a positive experience for applicants, volunteers, staff, and community partners. You understand that volunteer onboarding is not just a checklist. LHSC welcomes a high volume of student volunteers, which make up approximately 35% of our volunteer population and it is often a person's first real experience with LHSC. You help make that experience clear, welcoming, and professional.
As the ideal candidate, you have:
- A minimum two-year College Certificate in Human Resources, Business Administration, or another related field acceptable to the Hospital.
- A University Degree in a related field is considered an asset.
- Volunteer Management Certification is considered an asset.
- One to three years of related experience.
- Previous experience working with volunteers, or post-secondary students is considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A strong customer-service mindset and commitment to service excellence.
- Advanced time management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage interruptions, forecast priorities, and follow through on time-sensitive requirements.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to track onboarding requirements, maintain accurate records, and ensure volunteers are ready to begin on time.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to respond to questions, concerns, or issues with professionalism and good judgment.
- Creativity and comfort using technology to support volunteer recruitment opportunities.
- Experience working with diverse groups and individuals across different age groups, backgrounds, and experiences.
- High emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and self-regulation.
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care.
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC.
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Vision, Purpose and Values.
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis.
