Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Governance and Operational Excellence, this person will play a pivotal role in various aspects of committee coordination across different domains during the ramp-up phase and beyond.

Key responsibilities include coordination and preparation of committees within PowerCo and Volkswagen Group.

This is a flex hybrid model, requiring 2 days in the St. Thomas office, with flexibility as required based on the needs of the project and a possible eventual transition to full time onsite.

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Investment Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating the release of investment proposal within PowerCo Canada, the preparation of committees for the release of investment budgets within the PowerCo Group and VW Group, and ensuring that all processes are streamlined and effective while keeping track of budgetary dependencies. This role requires a blend of structural thinking, the ability to analyze complex requirements and expertise in communicating and visualizing complex strategic and financial content. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to contribute to the success of our projects and make a significant impact within our organization. Interdisciplinary thinking will be important as the position will be working closely with international and diverse teams across various specialist disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investment committee: Define and implement a PowerCo Canada internal governance structure for Investment expenditure, including the Definition and running a regular investment committee with board members within PowerCo Canada in alignment with VW Group and PowerCo Group processes and regulations
  • Investment strategy: Identify and drive necessary committee decisions for PowerCo Canada in collaboration with senior management. Develop and execute the strategic plans to successful committee approval. Prepare high-level presentations and align with key stakeholders including operations, strategy, finance, and procurement. Act as a subject matter expert for investment release.
  • Project and Investment Coordination: Oversee the coordination of large-scale investments in plant infrastructure, such as machinery, automation systems, and facility upgrades. Ensure that the capital investment in plant infrastructure is used efficiently and aligned with growth objectives. Independently oversee, create and edit the development of high-impact presentations and documentation; organize and lead alignment meetings with stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Cost Overview and Documentation: Establish and maintain up-to-date cost overviews, ensure audit-proof documentation and record of decisions. Monitor and report on progress and identify potential risks and opportunities to contribute to overall project success.
  • Risk Management and Compliance: Assess and mitigate financial risks associated with investments in plant development, procurement, and technology implementation. Ensure compliance with company guidelines, industry regulations, environmental standards, and safety protocols in manufacturing operations.
  • Monitor changes in government policies or incentives, such as subsidies for clean energy or battery technology, that could impact investment opportunities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders, serving as the primary point of contact for committee-related inquiries. Promote collaboration and effective communication across project stakeholders.
  • Organizational setup: Assist the Director of Governance and Operational Excellence in setting up the organizational unit, definition of processes, standards and guidelines
  • Continuous Improvement: Engage in continuous learning and development to stay updated on best practices and industry trends, enhancing skills and knowledge in project management.
  • Additional Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the organization.

What you bring to the Team

  • Graduate degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in investment coordination, financial analysis, or a related role.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office for creating financial presentations and reports.
  • Strong structural thinking and organizational skills, Ability to analyze and synthesize complex financial data.
  • Strategic and pragmatic thinking with a strong commitment to project objectives.
  • Extremely collaborative, organized, detail-oriented, with the ability to juggle multiple issues and activities simultaneously in a highly professional manner.
  • Highly engaging and self-motivated, responsive, structured, results-oriented working skills with the ability to deliver results within tight timeframes and to work both independently and within a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Occasional travel within Ontario, as well as internationally (~10%).
  • Ability to maintain flexible work hours to account for time zone differences with Europe, when necessary.
  • Overtime may be required to meet ramp-up deadlines.
  • International mindset and strong interest in global work and diverse teams.
  • Entrepreneurial drive to help establish a company from the ground up.
  • Experience in automotive and/or e-mobility industry (challenges & opportunities) is considered an asset
  • German language skills is considered an asset
