Job Description

Duties: Under the general direction of the Dean, Centre for Research and Innovation (CRI), the Manager, Engineering Research Labs is accountable for the effective operations, technical support services, and management of the applied research activities of two engineering-related research labs: the Centre for Connected Building Technology (CCBT) and the Fanshawe Product Testing Facility (FPT). The incumbent provides supervision of technicians and research associates, schedules lab access and activities, and represents Fanshawe’s technical capabilities to industry partners.

In co-operation with the Dean, CRI, the Senior Manager, Research Projects, and the Manager, Research Operations, the incumbent is responsible for lab and project budget development and monitoring. The incumbent serves as the main contact for the ISO accreditation of the FPT facilities and ensures operational compliance in accordance with regulations. Primary responsibility for Health and Safety, and maintenance administration of the research.

In order to achieve this objective, managers are required to be active in health and safety and incident prevention by establishing and adhering to procedures and safe work practices as required by the corporate health and safety management system, and in accordance with relevant Health and Safety legislation and regulations.

Qualifications

 
  • Post-secondary 4-year degree in a related discipline such as Science
  • Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science related disciplines considered an asset
  • Minimum 5 years’ related, progressive work experience is required at the point of hire into this position
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Solid skills and experience in human resource management, budget planning, forecasting and resource allocation, project management
  • Supervisory experience with strong leadership ability
  • Excellent problem-solving, customer service and communication skills
  • Experience managing a research and development lab a significant asset
