The Department of Economics is a research-intensive academic unit that endeavors to deliver high impact publications in the discipline.  Students at every level benefit from this research and are educated to think critically about economics in both their everyday lives and their future professions.

Responsibilities

The Administrative Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support to the Office of the Chair and will provide front-line reception support to faculty, staff, students, and visitors on a variety of matters, including effectively communicating University and Department policies, practices, and information in a timely and professional manner.  The Administrative Assistant will support all faculty with word processing and administrative support for course-related materials, including course outlines and exams, OWL sites, research and workshop sites, and resource sites.  The Administrative Assistant will also provide support in the completion of travel expense claims, booking hotels and facilitating workshop lunches and dinners and will be responsible for the maintenance and updating of the Department website including initiating, creating, and editing documents and actively updating all departmental web pages.

Qualifications

Education:
-   2 year Community College Diploma in administrative studies

Experience:
-   2 years website creation, editing and maintenance experience using HTML code and Cascade in an administrative support position within an academic unit
-   2 years experience with general office procedures, word processing and editing, providing customer service in an academic unit
-   Experience ensuring AODA accessibility compliance in the production of course materials, web documents and websites

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
-   Familiarity with AODA accessibility requirements in the production of course materials, web documents and websites
-   Familiarity with formatting for letters, reports & newsletters
-   Verbal and written communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
-   Excellent communication skills with an ability to interact with audiences in a professional, respectful, and diplomatic manner
-   Motivated with an ability to stay abreast of technological developments
-   Attention to detail and proof-reading skills with an ability to process information with a high degree of accuracy
-   High degree of time management and organization skills, with an ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
-   Ability to function in a team as well as independently, showing both resourcefulness and initiative, and an ability to work independently with little supervision
-   Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to growth and change
-   Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to research/investigate issues and resolve problems
-   Knowledge of office procedures, including strategies for records management
-   Intermediate proficiency required in Microsoft Office to prepare emails, course outlines, announcements, and to input data into spreadsheets and databases
-   Solid knowledge of Cascade, Adobe PRO & Photoshop, Adobe In-Design, Qualtrics, PS HR preferred
