Job Description

Web Technical Project Manager

As a Web Technical Project Manager, you are the “translation layer” at Red Rhino. Reporting to the Web Account Lead, you sit at the intersection of our development team and our account managers. You are the quarterback for web builds: transforming complex technical requirements into actionable sprint plans and ensuring our “Rhino-standard” quality is met on every build.

You aren’t just moving tickets in Jira; you are identifying technical roadblocks before they happen, managing resource capacity, and ensuring our code meets the highest standards of performance and accessibility. Your mission is to ship great websites, on time and on budget, with happy clients and calm teams.

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • Projects ship on time and on budget
  • Teams feel organized, protected, and unblocked
  • Internal teams feel informed, confident, and supported
  • Fewer surprises, fewer fire drills, smoother launches
  • Web delivery becomes predictable, scalable, and profitable

How This Fits Red Rhino

This role is perfect for someone who:

  • Loves structure and momentum
  • Enjoys being at the center of strategy, creative, and technical execution
  • Takes pride in shipping great work without chaos
  • Wants to help Red Rhino scale its web delivery engine without burning out teams or margins

Key Responsibilities

  • Sprint & Resource Management: Lead daily stand-ups, manage the development backlog in Jira, build and maintain project plans, timelines, and milestones, and ensure developers have clear, well-defined requirements to minimize “scope creep”
  • Technical Scoping: Assist the Web Account Lead, Account Manager and Chief Revenue Officer in providing accurate time and effort estimates for new features. Track hours and burn against these estimates to ensure projects remain commercially healthy.
  • Technical Solution Validation: Act as a critical filter for development approaches; challenge over-engineered solutions, identify edge cases in logic, and advocate for the most efficient path to meet project goals
  • Client & Stakeholder Management: Communicate technical issues, trade-offs, and changes clearly to internal clients. Explain “why” a technical delay is happening to a non-technical stakeholder in a way that builds trust
  • The “Definition of Done”: Facilitate the QA process, ensuring all work meets W3C/WCAG standards and project specifications before it reaches the client.
  • Process Optimization: Conduct post-mortems to identify bottlenecks in our development lifecycle and implement better workflows between design, dev, and launch.
  • Release Management: Coordinate deployments and version control via Bitbucket, ensuring smooth transitions from staging to production environments.

Technology & Skills Required

PM Fundamentals:

  • Advanced Jira/Bitbucket: Beyond basic use – you should understand how to configure workflows, components, and reporting in Jira.
  • WordPress Mastery: A strong understanding of how the WordPress ecosystem works (themes, plugins, Gutenberg, ACF, and hosting environments).
  • SDLC & Agile: Deep understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle and the ability to pivot between Scrum and Kanban as project needs dictate.

Technical Skills

  • Web Standards & Accessibility: Advanced knowledge of WCAG 2.1/2.2 compliance
  • API & Integration Knowledge: Ability to understand technical documentation for third-party integrations (e.g., CRMs, payment gateways).
  • Performance Awareness: Understanding of Core Web Vitals and how development choices impact site speed.

Experience & Requirements

  • Experience: 4 – 7+ Years of experience in technical project management, specifically within a web development or software agency environment.
  • Proven Track Record: Experience managing multiple concurrent web builds from discovery to launch.
  • Exceptional communication skills: specifically the ability to explain “why” a technical delay is happening to a non-technical stakeholder in a way that builds trust.

Nice to Have

  • Technical Background: Previous experience as a junior developer or a degree in Computer Science/IT.
  • Certification: PMP, CAPM, or Certified Scrum Master (CSM) designation.

Salary Range: $70,000 – 75,000
