We are looking for a Director, Security Operations

 

The Director, Security Operations will partner with key stakeholders in executing proactive and effective information security controls and processes across Canada Life to further mature our security program and reduce risk to our business. Working closely with the AVP, Information Security, this role will be responsible for continue developing and strengthening the security operations function, focusing on enhancing the Data Loss Prevention program, User Awareness programs and other security functions. This role will work with technology and business stakeholders to deploy effective controls to protect Canada Life’s data and to implement customized security training to different groups across the organization.

 

What you will do 

  • Continue developing the Canada Life’s information security operations strategy and operating model to ensure timely, efficient, and effective execution of Data Loss Prevention controls, security awareness training, and other security activities.
  • Partner with other security teams for developing DLP strategy, processes, and implementation of technology solutions to address data leakage risks
  • Lead the design, development, implementation, and configuration of multiple DLP technologies across multiple technology channels
  • Lead information security practitioners to enhance and strengthen the effectiveness of Canada Life’s DLP scope, controls, and response processes
  • Lead investigations and resolution of security incidents
  • Establish role-based security training and awareness program to develop and implement a targeted role-based training curriculum for targeted roles
  • Create a positive security awareness program that engages employees, to include focusing on changing behaviors both at home and at work.
  • Ensure that Canada Life’s security awareness program meets all industry regulations, standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure that the security awareness program communicates Canada Life’s security policies and requirements so that people know, understand, and can follow them.
  • Ensure the security awareness program effectively improves behaviors so our employees act in a secure manner, reducing the most risk to our organization. Create a metrics framework that can effectively measure these requirements.
  • Partner with other technology leaders to ensure effective collaboration among subject matter experts.
  • Provide oversight and expert advice for the implementation of security controls in technology solutions and recommend mitigating controls for identified risks.
  • Look for opportunities to manage changing workload efficiently to ensure timely response to business need
  • Collaborate effectively with other leaders from across the organization to identify, formulate and enforce security improvements that balance risk with business operations, and do not diminish efficiencies or innovation.
  • Foster, advocate for, and strengthen Canada Life’s overall security posture
  • Build and maintain a backlog of security remediation work
  • Establish, support, and streamline security reporting metrics
  • Lead the Security Assurance team to achieve and surpass personal and team objectives
  • Provide support to risk, governance and audit activities and testing 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What you will bring 

  • 8+ years of leadership experience deploying and managing security operations function, including DLP and User Awareness programs.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience within the area of Security Operations, including development, implementation, and management of DLP and User Awareness programs.
  • 5+ years of experience in the financial services industry is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Technology, or equivalent experience
  • Strong Understanding of information security controls across broad spectrum of platforms
  • Proven ability to identify, analyze and translate information security risk in the context of what it means to achieving business objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver measurable results to enhance security posture and reduce risk
  • One or more of the following certifications in a good standing order is considered an asset: CISM and/or CISSP
  • Working knowledge of information security frameworks like ISO27001/2 and NIST
  • A “continuous improvement” mindset
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated capability to build and foster strong relationships through collaboration, influencing change, and building consensus
  • Constant learner and passion for technology and risk governance
  • Deep understanding of how large enterprise organizations work, within in a regulated environment
  • Excellent track record of leading and developing high performing teams
  • Experience with ServiceNow GRC or other GRC platforms is an asset
