Start.ca is currently searching for a Fibre Optics Construction Inspector who will be responsible for completing all pre-build work, reviewing project plans prior to implementation, tracking day-to-day construction activities in the field, implementing project plans and schedules, and recording GIS details on the ‘As-built’ construction drawings.  In addition, this role is responsible for ensuring safety and quality standards are met throughout all projects.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Complete preliminary reviews of plans, specifications, construction schedules, and drawings.
Inspect construction activities, operations, and work to ensure projects are built according to approved plans, specifications, and design drawings.
Conduct site meetings with contractors and planners to ensure that potential construction concerns or delays are addressed.
Maintain and drive the construction schedule in conjunction with the project team, ensuring project milestones and completion dates are met.
Ensure material quantities and project supplies are accurate and available.
Liaise and maintain effective communication between contractors and the Fibre Infrastructure team.
Review and maintain construction documentation, schedules, and records.
Review workload with management and complete daily/weekly/monthly inspection reports.
Ensure that As-built drawings are collected, validated, and uploaded to our GIS system regularly.
Maintain a safe work environment by following all required Federal and company guidelines, codes, standards, and legal requirements.
Other appropriate responsibilities relevant to the role today and the role as it may evolve.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 1-3 years of experience working in a similar role within a construction environment.
 Graduate of a recognized Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related program of study.
Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental protection practices and procedures as they apply to common construction processes.
 Strong knowledge of fibre optic construction documents (including utility plans and maps), current fibre optic construction practices, building code and  utilities construction guidelines, and various pieces of fibre optic construction equipment and their operating capabilities (directional drills, vac trucks, road cut saws, etc.).
Aptitude for identifying constructability issues and creating solutions in the construction plan and schedule.
Strong communicator with the ability to connect, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders.
Strong organizational and planning skills coupled with the ability to manage competing priorities.
Basic AutoCAD knowledge is considered an asset.
Telecommunications construction and design experience is considered an asset. 
OACETT member or eligibility for membership is considered an asset.
Valid G level driver’s license and able to provide a driver’s abstract to meet CVOR requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 Ability to safely lift and carry items weighing 70lbs or more.
Ability to safely maneuver, set up, and use a 30ft extension ladder.
Comfortable working at heights and on construction sites.
Repetitive motions for prolonged lengths of time may be required.
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
