The Role

This senior level technical Software Team Lead role will be responsible for the development of software applications for the Company’s suite of products for the insurance industry.  The incumbent will also be expected to perform a range of project lead duties requiring liaison with other functional units in the organization. This individual will play a lead role in the overall software development process including designing and developing new software applications, enhancing current applications, testing and analysis, and leading, mentoring and managing the performance of staff on the development team.

 

The position reports to the Vice President, Software Development.

 

Role Responsibilities 

  • Work with senior team members to design solutions, including development of specifications to ensure quality;
  • Create and maintain key documentation;
  • Leadership relating to delivery of software releases, patch updates and ad hoc issues raised by clients or the Company’s Production Support Team;
  • Input into Software Development Lifecycle process optimization;
  • Advancement of the Company’s architectural vision through compliant software code, code reviews, unit testing, demonstrations, and documentation;
  • Estimation input to assist in sprint and release sizing;
  • Manage short and long-term objectives and effectively scope projects within schedule constraints;
  • Lead a team of developers, including coaching, prioritizing work, delivering training, and performance management; and
  • Other duties as required by the Company from time to time.

 

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • More than 10 years’ prior related experience in software development, preferably in the insurance or a related industry;
  • Experience in related development technologies, including:
    • Development Tools: Java, Spring, Angular, IntelliJ;
    • Code Management: CodeReviewer, SVN, Git;
    • Build and Development: Jenkins, Flyway; and
    • Infrastructure: Wildfly, Alfresco.
  • Professional, results-oriented with a high degree of self-motivation;
  • A demonstrated ability to engage and motivate a highly-skilled technical team;
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization and time management skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Ability to provide feedback to employees, as well as accepting and acting on feedback from employees;
  • There may be some requirements to travel, particularly in relation to client needs; and
  • May at times be required to extend normal working hours to meet deadlines and business demands.
