Duties: The incumbent provides assistance and supervision to the student and faculty teams in the Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene programs and is integral to the operations of the Oral Health Clinic at Fanshawe College. The incumbent performs duties in matters related to a dental clinic coupled with education needs to ensure success of the students and clinics.

Responsibilities:
- Ensure the health and safety of students, faculty, staff, and general public in areas of Infection Prevention and Control, Medical Reprocessing, and dental radiography
- Critical thinking, judgement and technical expertise to execute complex tasks and problem-solving in a fast-paced dynamic environment
- Adhere to and implement PHIPA policies
- Responsible for reporting and troubleshooting breaches in IPAC and PHIPA
- Receptionist/front desk duties
- Developing operating procedures for equipment and processes and updating as required/legislated
- Proactive demonstration of process enhancement
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization, maintenance, and processes as required and legislated
- Able to assist with rare medical emergencies when/if they arise
- Perform radiography asepsis audits of all Fanshawe College students using established checklist and report to faculty
- Perform Infection Prevention and Control ( IPAC ) audits of Fanshawe College students using established checklist and report to faculty
- Assist Fanshawe students in radiography areas and authorize transfer of radiographic images from radiography system to axiUm
- Assist Fanshawe students in areas of reception
- Apply principles of sterile technique and clean procedures in daily activities and updating as legislated
- Responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, and reprocessing of supplies, instrumentation, and trays utilizing specialized equipment
- Monitor supplies, replace stock and keeping work area tidy and other duties as assigned
- Dental Assisting certificate required
- Member in good standing with the Ontario Dental Assistants Association ( ODAA )
- H.A.R.P. approved
- First Aid/ CPR Level HCP
- Recent Sterile Processing or Medical Device Reprocessing experience
- Successful completion of (or enrolled in) a Sterile Processing Certificate preferred
- Successful completion of (or enrolled in) a Certified Medical Device Reprocessing Technician ( CSA ) certificate preferred
- Minimum 3 years’ recent and relevant experience
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered; preference will be given to applicants meeting the education requirements
- Demonstrated continuing education history related to enhancing clinical practice
- Ability to prioritize and adapt to change
- Demonstrate empathy to students in stressful situations
- Understanding of dental office procedures coupled with educational activities to ensure program and clinic success
- Knowledge of dental instrumentation
- Knowledge of routine infection control practices; completion of Infection Prevention and Control ( IPAC ) courses sponsored and endorsed by IPAC Canada would be an asset
- Able to accept accountability for operation of dental equipment
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills especially with sensitive information
- Demonstrated record of excellent work performance
- Demonstrated computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite and Internet)
- Ability to work under minimal supervision, independently, and as a team member
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of client and family-centred care
