About Us
Western’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (SSMD) is a leading Canadian centre of outstanding education and research shaping health care for the next generation and is the largest and most complex faculty on campus.
The Basic Medical Science Graduate & Undergraduate office consists of centralized student services that oversee the administration of the BMSc program, Neurosciences program, IMS program and the Graduate and Postdoctoral Scholars programs. Each unit is led by an Associate Dean or Academic Director.
Responsibilities
The Experiential Learning Coordinator at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is dedicated to expanding experiential learning opportunities that connect academic learning with real-world applications for students. This role is pivotal in the development, management, and support of both curricular and co-curricular programs, including 4th-year capstone projects and hands-on learning activities like labs, simulations, role-playing, case studies, and community-engaged learning. The Coordinator collaborates closely with faculty course leads in the Bachelor of Medical Sciences and Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences graduate program to integrate experiential learning content into courses, ensuring instructional goals align with practical, real-world applications. By cultivating partnerships with local community organizations, the Coordinator builds a network that supports Community Engaged Learning (CEL) and Experiential Learning (EL) placements, providing students with valuable professional experiences. Additionally, the Coordinator coordinates initiatives such as the X-Labs student summer camp and the Medical Science Community Outreach (MaSCOt) program, and administers procedures for both new and established programs, advancing Schulich’s mission to deliver practical, high-impact learning opportunities.
