About Us

The purpose of the Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women and Children is to promote the development of community-centered action research on the prevention of violence against women and children. The Centre facilitates individuals, groups and institutions representing the diversity of the community to pursue research questions and training opportunities related to the understanding and prevention of abuse. 

Responsibilities

The Technical Specialist (Media) supports knowledge mobilization activities within the Centre for Research & Education on Violence against Women & Children. This role contributes to the mission by facilitating effective dissemination of research through webinars, in-person and online meetings, social media, and various resources (e.g., reports, bulletins, videos). Key responsibilities include coordinating and testing web conferencing services for medium/large-scale events, providing technical support for guest speakers, and ensuring the smooth delivery of online sessions. The role includes managing participant connection instructions, implementing best practices, addressing security, monitoring online chat rooms, and troubleshooting issues.

The Technical Specialist (Media) will also support web conferencing tools, recommend system functions to enhance the learner experience, and handle post-production of recorded events. The role also leverages social media to promote knowledge mobilization events, create engaging content, monitor online interactions, and compile social media metrics to maximize audience reach and engagement. 
 

Qualifications

Education:

  • 2 year College diploma in media and/or communication studies

Experience:

  • 1 year experience working with web conferencing software and tools
  • Experience configuring and facilitating the delivery of large-scale sessions using web conferencing software
  • Experience coordinating social media platforms, communication and engagement strategies
  • Experience with creating digital content for social media and managing social media platforms
  • Experienced in building positive and strong relationships with stakeholders

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Some knowledge of gender-based violence preferred
  • Knowledge of operating systems, web browsers, online learning platform and web conferencing compatibility issues and functional capabilities
  • Familiarity with the merits and challenges with a variety of web conferencing software (e.g. Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype)
  • Excellent troubleshooting ability along with hands-on expertise in technical support
  • Verbal and written communication skills with an ability to document technical information
  • Ability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
  • Ability to apply active listening to hear and understand the complete message being communicated
  • Ability to establish rapport with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine service orientation
  • Ability to process information with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
  • Adapts readily and effectively to changing priorities and demands
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, faculty members, students and the public
  • Ability to interact professionally with external research community members
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve goals
  • Familiarity with Western policies and guidelines preferred
