Part-time GIS Instructors
About the job
Fanshawe College is seeking interested and qualified professionals to teach in the Donald J. Smith School of Building and Design.
Note: These are part-time Faculty positions (up to 6 hours per week) starting January 7th, 2026 and ending April 17th, 2026.
Specific Qualifications
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems or in a land-based related field such as Geography, Planning, Environmental Design, all with a specialization in Geographic Information Systems/Science, information sciences, or related advanced degree
- Candidates with college or university level teaching experience and membership in professional organizations such as GISP, CIP, or CSLA preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of recent and relevant experience
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered; preference will be given to applicants meeting the minimum education requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in current GIS software and related tools including:
- GIS automation using Python & Model Builder
- GIS Network-Based Analysis
- GIS web-based applications
- GNSS/GPS technology for field data collection
- GIS data acquisition and integration
- Sustainable land use planning, mapping, statistical analysis, and/or design mindset are assets
- Demonstrated interpersonal skill suited to working closely with peers, community partners and/or businesses to provide practical student projects.
- Proficiency with technical and online learning are assets
- Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and leading innovation
- Combination of technical GIS skills coupled with excellent leadership and teaching skills
- Strong commitment to academic excellence and student success
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to relate effectively to a wide variety of learners
- Strong technical/computer skills and familiarity with educational technologies (LMS) are required
- Related industry work experience, previous college teaching experience, and knowledge of curriculum design and student evaluations is preferable
