About Us

The Faculty of Health Sciences is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit, comprised of six Schools (Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Communication Sciences and Disorders), large Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Advanced Health Care Practice, and Applied Health Sciences and four Research Centres. The Faculty has more than 3,200 undergraduate students and more than 800 graduate students (200 PhD students).

Responsibilities

The Curriculum Specialist will facilitate course development, revisions, and other curricular initiatives focusing on teaching methods, assessment, and educational research methods that follow sound pedagogical practices. The role will facilitate the visioning and implementation of strategic updates to existing programs, as well as drive the scoping, visioning, implementation, and quality assurance process of new graduate programs. The Curriculum Specialist will also promote the introduction and continuous improvement of new teaching methodologies, including the meaningful integration of technology and the application of inclusive, anti-oppressive, and student-centered pedagogies, assessments, and teaching practices in courses, and will enhance the ability of faculty members and instructors to implement these methodologies in their respective course(s). Working with the Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, Program Chairs, Program Manager, Digital Media Designers, Subject Matter Experts, and Faculty, the Curriculum Specialist will actively participate in the development, design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of innovative approaches to course design and delivery in the Faculty of Health Sciences across graduate programs and undergraduate programs, including multidisciplinary programs.

Qualifications

Education:
-   Master’s degree in Health Sciences, Education, Curriculum Development or a related field
-   PhD or EdD in Health Sciences, Education, Curriculum Development or a related field preferred

Experience:
-   3 years’ experience in curriculum design and delivery at the post-secondary level in a higher education institution
-   Promoting online and technology enhanced education in a higher education institution 

Preferred Experience:  
-   Facilitating program-level curriculum design and quality assurance processes in higher education  
-   Instructing in face-to-face, blended, or online environments 
-   Experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g. Sakai) 
-   Educational or workplace background in Health Sciences or a related field

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Familiarity with adult learning principles (virtual and traditional) and with the best practices in course design, development, and evaluation 
-   In-depth knowledge of educational technologies and outcome-based curriculum design, as well as eLearning principles, strategies, and tools 
-   Knowledge of the IQAP (Institutional Quality Assurance Process) processes and policies 
-   Proven ability to build positive and productive relationships and consensus with and among team members 
-   Knowledge of group facilitation, negotiation, and conflict resolution techniques 
-   Ability to work with a variety of faculty members, subjects, and teaching styles 
-   Strong communication skills, including the ability to write clear and succinct briefs, reports 
-   A high degree of comfort with strategic visioning, including clearly setting and communicating timelines and clear role expectations
-   Ability to quickly research, evaluate, and advise on the viability of new and existing technologies and innovations in eLearning 
-   Ability to apply critical thinking to evaluate information and make appropriate decisions or recommendations 
-   Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with various levels of academic administration, clients and peers to ensure that policies, regulations and guidelines are respected in the design and/or modification of existing programs
-   Proven ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
-   Judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and opportunities
-   Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fluid and challenging team environment with changing work priorities and deadlines
-   A strong record of teamwork with the motivation and ability to work independently with little supervision
-   Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office, Sakai and Storyboard creation 
-   Experience conducting and participating in scholarly work in education, including sharing innovations and/ or research in local and national venues preferred
