Job Description
Systems Technician
Position Summary:
The Systems Technician provides first level technical support for members of the London Police Service (LPS). Working within a team, Systems Technicians troubleshoot hardware and software issues, are responsible for lifecycle management of IT end user devices and assist LPS members on the usage of hardware and software while maintaining a focus on delivering excellent customer service.
Responsibilities:
- Provide London Police Service (LPS) members with Tier 1 technical support for end user devices (computers, smartphones, desk phones, MDTs, printers, etc.)
- Troubleshoot reported software or hardware issues by gathering all pertinent information, researching common fixes, and attempting to identify a resolution before escalating issue.
- Deploy, maintain, upgrade, repair, and decommission end user computing device hardware and software.
- Set up new devices with required software and security policies.
- Ensure computers in police cruisers are functioning properly.
- Perform initial diagnosis of network connectivity issues.
- Manage inventory details for tracking of equipment and user responsibility.
- Other duties as assigned within the core competencies.
Requirements:
- 2-year post-secondary education in Computer Systems Technology or equivalent.
- 1-2 years’ related experience.
- Strong problem-solving skills and judgement required to make decisions from numerous/broader range of alternatives covered by standards and precedents of a general nature; for producing a wide range of products requiring a high degree of accuracy and close tolerances; and for maintaining highly technical equipment.
- Excellent communication skills for regular contact with LPS members, contractors, and vendors to give, obtain, and/or exchange, and/or discuss technical information or decisions requiring discussion or explanation to ensure full understanding, with tact, self-control, and persuasiveness.
