London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is a world-class Academic Health Sciences Centre (AHSC) located in the southwestern Ontario city of London. The Corporate Academics portfolio supports the academic part of LHSC’s overall mission as an AHSC. As such our constituency is made up of all our staff with Team LHSC, including over 3000 Learners, over 2000 preceptors, and hundreds of faculty members. The portfolio is specifically made up of our Office of Learner Affairs, our Centre for Advancements in Learning and our Education Academy. 

The Office of Learner Affairs is responsible for maintaining relationships with over 50 academic institutions and supporting over 3000 learner placements per annum. Our Office supports the onboarding and learning experience of our learners and works with preceptors to help with our capabilities and capacity for placements.

The Centre for Advancements in Learning is comprised of our simulation program, CSTAR (Canadian Surgical Technologies & Advanced Robotics), Library Services and the Institute for Collaborative Practice. CSTAR is a world-leading centre for researching, developing, testing, and the delivery of simulation training including minimally invasive surgical technologies and techniques, in situ training program, both internal and external skills training support. The LHSC, Health Sciences Library, is a center of excellence that links patient care providers, clinical educators, health researchers, and health care administrators to published evidence through client-focused relationships and strategic partnerships. Our newly stood Institute for Collaborative Practice will support research into, implementation and translational science of and knowledge mobilization concerning teaming and the future of team-based care.

The Education Academy is responsible for the delivery of high-quality education within our learning environment. They provide expert-level guidance on the development and execution of learning programs. Through a comprehensive needs analysis, they identify gaps in existing leadership and staff development and engage partners to drive initiatives that help our people develop the critical skills and capabilities necessary to achieve organizational goals.

Job Summary

 

What the Role is 

The Director, Academics and Learning will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with senior leadership on broader program strategies that impact community, regional or provincial partners.  

  • Supporting programs in their effectively delivering curricula to both internal and external memberships  

  • Overseeing and facilitate the relationships with our Academic affiliates and partners

  • Continuously, evaluate the latest pedagogical theories and developments in education to support our many service lines including the advancement of simulation.   

  • Collaborating with Director colleagues and when necessary senior leadership to support the learning environment 

  • Supporting the advancement of training and implementation science related to collaborative practice

Reporting to the Corporate Academic Executive, the Director, Academics and Learning will translate decisions of our senior level into execution by utilizing systems thinking strategic planning and relationship management by developing purposeful coalitions with internal and external stakeholders. This position requires someone with a proven track record for leading and driving systems transformation through encouraging and supporting innovation and championing and orchestrating change. developing and sustaining healthy work environments and effective teams while leading in a performance-driven culture. You will organize program activities, direct resources, execute operational initiatives, formulate policies & procedures, and strategically plan for the future.

You will demonstrate strong business acumen including management of multi-million dollar operating and capital budgets. This leader will have exceptional analytical, critical thinking and business development skills that contribute to identifying problems and issues, evaluating the interdependence of decisions, questioning and challenging the status quo, and designing and implementing processes for improvement.

NOTE: This role is required to be on-call, evenings and weekends on a rotational basis.

What You Will Bring with You 

  • Successful completion of a recognized Master’s Degree in Business, Health Administration, or Education 

  • PhD in Education, Leadership or Health administration combined with work experience within an academic or health profession; also accepted

  • Proficiency in pedagogy design and implementation in a larger organization with evidence/ study of impact analysis is an asset  

  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years’ leadership experience, preferably in progressively more responsible leadership position(s)

  • Minimum five (5) years' previously related experience supporting knowledge mobilization/ learning, concepts of blended learning, universal design for learning

  • Member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) who have, or are in process of attaining the Canadian Health Executive (CHE) Select certification program preferred

  • Fluent and computer literate with computer systems such as email and Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint)

  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
