Backend Developer/Systems Administrator

Functionally rich, technically advanced and user friendly, PSD’s Citywide Enterprise systems are configurable for clients to deal with the current and future needs of an ever-demanding fiscal environment. Our applications are open-source and web-hosted.
As we continue to grow our team, we are seeking a full-time BACKEND DEVELOPER / SYSTEMS ADMIN to join our development team. This is a remote based role within Ontario, Canada.
Role Description
While working within a cross-functional development team, you will be responsible for further supporting our applications. As a generalist who loves solving problems, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of our systems, organizing data and assisting in feature deployments. This multifaceted position requires a strong understanding of system administration and database management. In addition to solid technical skills, we are looking for candidates with strong oral and written communications skills. You must be able to articulate technical solutions to a wide range of audiences.
Qualifications
- University or College degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or related degree/diploma.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in system administration including: Shell scripting, Postgres, MySQL; Docker considered an asset.
- Strong SQL skills; ability to create and modify complex stored procedures and functions.
- Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL), and proficiency in writing efficient database queries and data manipulation.
- Experience with backend development; PHP is considered an asset.
- Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining servers.
- Experience managing data backups and systems upgrades.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to collaborate and problem solve.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are a must.
- Good verbal and written communications and knowledge transfer skills.
Responsibilities & Duties
- For first 3 months, assist product teams in cleaning, organizing and maintaining client data.
- Work with team to identify areas of improvements
- Ongoing client data management - organize, maintain, and rectify as needed
- Enable/Disable features as requested.
- Effective knowledge with SQL statements and database development, PL/SQL, stored procedures, creating, and extending functions, scripts and triggers.
- Develop and maintain database solutions to improve technical implementations for our client base.
- Participate in a daily scrum and weekly team sprints.
- Experience working in an Agile project delivery environment, develops and modifies technology systems, addressing functional, performance, security, quality, operational and monitoring needs.
- Self-motivated; capable of working independently and results focused.
- Able to work multiple projects simultaneously.
- Shares knowledge with peers and documents solutions and deliverables.
- Confident; strong interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills.
Recruitment Process

Virtual Interview
Candidates invited to a virtual interview will meet with our hiring team and People and Culture. This will allow the candidate to get to know the team as well as learn more about our processes, culture and growth opportunities we have at PSD. During this phase of the interview process the candidate will be given a technical test to complete during the meeting.
